Hobby Broadcaster Profile
Christian Torres
Radio Unidad - Bridgeport, CTWhile today's corporate radio seems only interested in serving the largest available audience, it is the desire of Christian Torres to serve the public with Radio Unidad, which is his first effort in the world of Part 15 radio broadcasting.
The programming featured on Radio Unidad is Spanish Christian which is targeted to an audience that traditionally hasn't been served well by local commercial radio stations.
While he has limited experience in electronics, Torres has been active as an audio engineer for a locally produced program for his church. He had also served as the overnight operator of local commercial broadcaster Radio Cumbre located in Bridgeport.
The aspirations to spread the gospel started the research that would eventually lead him to consult with Joe at PelhamBroadcasting.com who provided the technical and installation services for the station's transmitter.
His studio operates with the Zararadio automation software with his programming computer feeding a Yamaha mixer, along with an Alesis compressor/limiter and the Hamilton Rangemaster transmitter. A second studio is under construction at his church which will help provide programming along with a planned second transmitter which will serve as part of a prison outreach ministry.
The local church amongst others have shown their support for the station and share in the vision. Local support has been great with "many calls and letters" praising the station's efforts.
Torres has hopes that they will be able to develop a network of transmitters in the future to carry their programming.
October 2010 Update: Christian sent along some updated photos of the station along with their new logo, which are shown on the right.
