Campus Broadcaster Profile Revisit

Saint Leo University - WSLU Radio

WSLU Radio - Saint Leo, Fl

John Mouw, Manager of Media Services and Classroom Technology for Saint Leo University, recently made us aware of some exciting changes that took place to the campus facility.

A new facility not only houses a video production facility but also the operations of WSLU, the university's campus-limited radio station.

The well thought out facility includes heavy duty soundproof doors, detached floors, clear vision between studios as well as an updated roster of equipment.

Studio spaces include a dedicated soundproof booth for producing professional sounding spots in addition to other applications, a main control room as well as a audio production and editing suite.

The equipment features popular broadcast equipment from the Arrakis MARC-15 audio console, Heil PR-40 microphones and Dell computers equipped with 4 gigabytes of RAM.

On the software side of things, audio capture and editing is performed using the popular Adobe Audition audio software. Audio programming is managed using the RadioBoss automation package which also allows the station to stream online. Currently using both Live365 and Shoutcast, Mouw states a plan to migrate to Live365 in the future.

The station still broadcasts on-campus using the Hamilton Rangemaster transmitter, although they're moved to 1610 Khz. The Inovonics 222 AM broadcast processor is still utilized as the transmitter's audio processor.

We'd like to thank John Mouw for his assistance for the behind-the-scenes look at the campus station.
